About Pins for Kids

Pins for kids was started at Saint Marks High School in Wilmington, Delaware by Zachary Frederick during the 2005-2006 wrestling season. The original purpose was to raise money to help children with diseases. It did not take long to realize that the Tay Sachs Disease was the one that would get the wrestling teams attention. Both the High School Administration and Head Coach Jason Bastianelli were quick to support the program along with everything it stood for. It is our hope to continue this effort in memory of all young children who have lost their battles with Tay - Sachs. We especially honor Dylan James Manning who was our first Tay Sachs Child and who we all came to love and honor for his hard fought battle against the terrible Tay Sachs Disease. Dylan passed away on August 2, 2006 at the age of 4 and now is the official Pins for Kids Guardian Angel. Dylan James Manning , son of Brian and Sherri Manning was our first hero and became the founding child for this program. In addition to Dylan, other children who have been part of Pins for Kids include Connor Hopf, Emma Rabinowitz, Gabriella , Elise Ten Berge, and this year Dakota Bihn.

To date Jason continues to keep the wrestlers not only focused on the wrestling season but also the need to give back to the community and to also realize how fortunate they are to have their health. Along with Jason, Tyler Snook took over as the supporting wrestler once Zach graduated. Finally, our primary goal is to raise awareness with the public about the diseases that affect our young children. Our long-term goal is to have a major impact on the ability to financially help these organizations with the needed research, which will reduce or eliminate this life threatening disease.
